9-11th November, 2007 Raise Your Banners Festival, Bradford - Not In Our Name CD launch This year's festival will see the launch of the Not In Our Name CD. www.raiseyourbanners.org 6th November, 2007 Songs For Change - Not In Our Name CD launch David will be hosting an evening of political song as part of the 6th annual Carrying Stream Festival in memory of Scotland's leading folklorist Hamish Henderson. This night will feature a number of grassroots singers as well as our headline guest Jez Lowe. This will also be the Scottish launch of the Not In Our Name CD, a compilation of folk songs about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, featuring artists such as Dick Gaughan, Roy Bailey, Eliza Gilkyson and Jez Lowe. Netherbow Arts Centre, High Street, Edinburgh. 8pm. £8/6. www.songsforchange.com 1st October, 2007 Big Blockade David will be joining in song hundreds of other activists at the gates of the UK's WMD base at Faslane, outside Glasgow on the west coast of Scotland, to mark 365 days of continous protest and civil disobedience. The Faslane 365 campaign has been very effective at raising awareness over the last year about the UK's WMD and why we must disarm immediately. Thousands of people have blockaded the base throughout the year with hundreds of arrests, often bringing the base's criminal business to a halt. The 1st October Big Blockade is open to everyone and will start on the morning of 1st and last throughout the day. Although there will be mass arrests, you can easily participate in the day's events without risking arrest. There will be music, fun and games for all to enjoy! Meeting at 7am at the North Gate of the Faslane base, near Helensburgh, Scotland. 5th June, 2007 Performers Blockade of Faslane David is co-organizing another Performers Blockade of Faslane's Trident nuclear submarine base on 5th June from 10am-4pm as part of the Faslane 365 campaign to get rid of the UK's WMD. Performers (singers, actors, poets etc) will be coming to Faslane from all over the country. If you would like to take part contact David at info@davidferrard.com . www.faslane365.org 10th February, 2007 Stop the War Coalition Scottish Conference, Glasgow David will be doing a lunchtime concert at the Stop the War Coalition Scottish Conference including the following speakers: Kate Hudson, Craig Murray, Yvonne Ridley, Walter Wolfgang, Jeremy Corbyn, Lindsey German, Mozzam Begg, Rose Gentle and others. Sir Charles Wilson Building, Gibson Street 10am - 5pm. www.edinburghstw.org.uk 6th December, 2006 Performers Blockade of Faslane David is co-organziing a Performers and Writers blockade outside the Faslane nuclear submarine base near Helensburgh on Wednesday 6th December between 10am and 4pm. This is part of the year long blockade of the WMD depot (see www.faslane365.org ). Everyone is welcome, especially, musicians, poets, writers, journalists etc. Songs For Change entrants are particularly welcome, especially if you'd like to come along and perform your song. There will be a stage with performances/readings by well known figures, including Roy Bailey, Alistair Hulett, George Monbiot and A.L Kennedy. If you are interested in either performing at or attending this event please get in touch with David at faslane365@songsforchange.com . You don't have to get arrested to attend or perform at this blockade! Much of the action will be symbolic. But if you want to spend the night in jail as a form of legitimate protest, then I'm sure there will be lots of singing to keep your spirits high! 26th November, 2006 Bin The Bomb Bash The Pleasance Cabaret Bar, The Pleasance, Edinburgh David is co-organizing an event to celebrate the Long Walk For Peace, the 85 mile march from the Faslane nuclear submarine base to the Edinburgh Parliament, on which he was the musician in residence. The Bin The Bomb Bash will be a traditional ceilidh-style event including music, poetry, dancing, comedy, and discussion on ways of taking our anti-nuclear weapons work forward. Entertainment includes comedy from AL Kennedy and music by two of the Songs For Change entrants: hip hop band 4 Dimensions and Lebanese classical singer Simone Sahyouni, both of whom participated at the 15th October Showcase. David will also be singing songs from the Long Walk and will be launching his Christmas single fundraiser of Peace Call. 4.30pm start and the event will run until 10pm. £5 entry with reasonably priced food and drinks available. There will be a fun raffle with some very generous prizes indeed (signed CDs, gig tickets, music vouchers etc)! 15th October, 2006 Songs For Change Songwriting Competition Showcase Edinburgh - Bongo Club - 37 Holyrood Road Some of the songs submitted to the competition and chosen by a panel of international songwriters will be performed live. This will be followed by songs from English folk singer extraordinaire, Roy Bailey ('the best socialist singer of his generation', Tony Benn). This event will be the closing event of Edinburgh's 10th Independent Radical Book Fair run by Word Power (www.word-power.co.uk). 8.30pm. £5 15-20th August, 2006 Topical Songwriting Workshops & Gigs Edinburgh - Theatre Workshop - 34 Hamilton Place David will be running a daily interactive workshop about topical song followed by a gig to illustrate the songs discussed in the workshop from 15-20th August during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. These will take place at the Theatre Workshop which is premiering Babylon Burning, a musical about the Iraq war, as well as running a series of talks, concerts and exhibitions about the occupation of Iraq. The workshop runs from 1.30-3pm and the gig from 3.30-4.30pm. Each costs £5 or £8 for both. 26th July, 2006 US singer-songwriter David Rovics Edinburgh - The Royal Oak - 1 Infirmary Street Following his successful November tour of the UK, David Rovics, veteran US political singer-songwriter, is returning to Edinburgh. Pete Seeger says "Listen to David Rovics..."!!! David Ferrard will start the night with a short set of his own songs at 7.30pm. 19th July, 2006 US singer-songwriter Tom Neilson Edinburgh - The Royal Oak - 1 Infirmary Street David has organised an Edinburgh gig for this veteran political singer-songwriter. 'This is very good music. And very good politics.' Tom Paxton 26th May, 2006 An Evening of Music & Poetry Against The War Edinburgh - The Forest Cafe - Bristo Place As part of Ed Rush Festival 2006 David is organising with Word Power bookstore an evening of poetry and music against the war. David will mix his own songs with some anti-war favourites. Others headlining include performance poet Sandra Alland and Paula Jennings.
